Disney Cruise Facebook Groups
Every Disney Cruise has a dedicated Facebook group, also known as a "roll call", where you can meet and interact with other people that will be on your same cruise. It's a wonderful way to get to know the people you will be cruising with. I personally have developed multiple lasting friendships with people I met on these Facebook cruise pages.
Besides socializing, there are many practical reasons to join your cruise group:
Reservations can be linked calling Disney Cruise Line or by logging into your Disney Cruise account and choosing Link Reservations. You will need their reservation number and a last name and date of birth from one person in the stateroom. Please note, this allows the other stateroom to see the ship activities and port adventures you've booked.
Fish Extender Groups & Exchanges
One of the most common reasons to join the cruise page is to join a fish extender group. What is a fish extender you ask? Great question! See our Fish Extenders article for an explanation about this onboard gift exchange program.
Besides the fish extender gift exchanges, there are sometimes other exchanges you can sign up to participate. Examples include:
How to Find Your Group
There are two ways to find the Facebook group specific to your sailing. Option one, you can use the Facebook search function to look for your group. Usually searching by ship name, month and year of sailing will enable you to find your group. For example, searching "Disney Wish July 2023" should display a list with every sailing for the Wish during July 2023. This doesn't always work because people don't always follow the recommended naming convention.
Option two is to go to the Disney Cruise Meet Facebook Groups page. This page contains a list of all of the Facebook groups for every sailing. Once joining the group, search down through the posts until you see the group list for your ship and year. Clicking the post will open up the complete list, allowing you to find your group by date. Optionally, you can find the list of groups, by ship and year in the Files section of the group page.
If you don't find a group by searching and when checking the Disney Cruise Meet Facebook Groups page, it is possible that the page hasn't been created yet. At this point you have two options. You can check back at a later date do see if the page has been created or you can create the group yourself. Just be sure to search thoroughly because having two groups for the same cruise can cause confusion and make it harder to coordinate fish extender groups and exchanges.
Facebook Group Meetups
Often, the Facebook group will arrange an optional meetup onboard the ship so that group members can meet in person. This usually happens on embarkation day at one of the venues.
As of writing, Disney was not taking reservations for group functions. If you are arranging a meetup, choose a venue that is sure to be open on embarkation day, such as the Promenade Lounge. A good time for the meetup is 2:30 PM or 3:00 PM as most people will be on board by this time, and this gives enough time before the mandatory safety drill that usually takes place around 4:00 PM.
